A Dilemma

Author: Stephen W. Cote

Must I fight?

And which will win, my valor or mercy?

Will I pen a righteous page in history?

Bring fortune and fame to my family?

Embattled, my will, maims and kills

Embittered, my soul, must I grow old

Standing in the wake of tyranny?

When I do wrong

Will I be saved from the damned by my victories?

Or be cast from Eden for eternity?

What fruit have I tasted from the garden's tree?

It's all so unclear, am I far or near?

My sight is pure, then grows obscure

The sum of my decisions defines my destiny

Out, out of paradise - leave this garden, be cast to Hades

Burn in despair and the flames for eternity

So I fear should I misguide my destiny

Insipid, your heart, a cannonade rips apart

Vapid, your dreams, empty meaning

Realize life's delicacy and fragility.
